Manjano 2018 winner Wallace Juma grew up in Dandora which is known for its dumpsite that serves the majority of Nairobi residents and the largest airport in Eastern Africa, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Having witnessed and experienced life around the dumpsite, Wallace wanted to discover an avenue to repurpose items that had been disposed of.
Wallace ingeniously adopted the dumpsite as his muse, developing the theme and message conveyed through walking in the dumpsite and it’s ecosystem, and combining the same with his love for conservation eventually coming up with his “Dumpsite” series of which his “Society” collages are a part of.
